No. 5 Tampa Uses 14-Hit Attack to Defeat Bentley, 15-1

TAMPA, Fla. – Twelve different players had hits and ten scored as the fifth-ranked University of Tampa Spartans defeated Bentley University, 15-1, in non-conference college baseball  Wednesday evening at the UT Baseball Field.

Tampa, 17-5, put up multiple runs in each of the first five innings with two in the first, three in both the second and third, two more in the fourth and five in the fifth.

The Spartans were powered by junior left fielder and leadoff hitter Yorvis Torrealba (Parkland, Fla.) who finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. He singled, stole second and scored in the first, reached on an error and scored in the second and slugged a three-run homer to left center in the third, making it an 8-0 game. He was lifted from the game after the fourth inning.

Senior center fielder Danny Blair (Bel Air, Md.), senior designated hitter Jack Loefflad (Somers Point, N.J.) and junior third baseman Sam Freitas (Lawrenceville, Ga.) each scored twice and Blair and freshman right fielder Luke Benoit (Boston, Mass.) had two RBI apiece.

Tampa split the game between five pitchers with starter Colton Widdows (Palm Harbor, Fla.) gaining the victory. The junior lefty pitched the first three, gave up three hits and struck out five.

Bentley, which totaled six hits, scored its only run in the eighth inning. Junior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS) was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a walk. A single to center by senior designated hitter Austin Farry (Watertown, Mass./BB&N) drove in Figueria from second.

Senior right fielder Gino Fordiani (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) led Bentley (2-11) with two hits.

Bentley will complete the Florida portion of its schedule on Thursday with an 11 am game against the University of Bridgeport at Tampa.
