Samko & Figueira Help Bentley Double Up Bridgeport, 10-5

TAMPA, Fla. – Graduate student Mike Samko (Arlington, Mass./BB&N) and junior Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS) each had two hits and two RBI as Bentley University doubled the University of Bridgeport, 10-5, in non-conference baseball action Monday afternoon at the University of Tampa Baseball Field.

Bentley struck for three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Samko scored the equalizer on an RBI single by senior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) and Grover was one of two to score on a go-ahead double to center by sophomore second baseman Charlie Auditore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS).

Figueira had an RBI single in the fifth before Bentley erupted for five runs in the sixth to take a 9-3 lead. Samko drove in two with a single and the inning also included an RBI single from junior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and a Figueira triple to center that scored Berardino.

Bentley totaled 11 hits with junior Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) the third Falcon with two against the 1-8 Purple Knights. Samko, Troiani and Berardino all scored twice for the Falcons (1-10).

Senior righty Ryan Corriveau (Milton, N.H../Nute HS) posted the win for the Falcons and sophomore righty Evan Christopulus (Andover, Mass./Andover HS) was credited with the save with 3.2 innings of relief. Corriveau allowed five hits and three runs while striking out four in 5.1 innings. Christopulos also fanned four while giving up three hits and two runs.

Freshman second baseman Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.) led Bridgeport with three hits, a run scored and an RBI.

The two teams will be back on the UT Baseball Field Tuesday with the first pitch set for 1 pm.
