18-Hit Attack Propels Assumption to 13-4 Win over Bentley

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Freshman catcher Connor Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) had three hits and a half-dozen teammates had two apiece as Assumption College defeated Bentley University 13-4 in non-conference college baseball Saturday afternoon at Lake Brantley High School.

The day started out on a positive note for Bentley with two home runs for the Falcons in the first two innings. Senior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) hit his third of the season with one aboard in the first and junior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS) hit his first to lead off the second, making it a 3-1 game.

Assumption took the lead, 6-3, with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Greyhounds, off to a 5-0 start, broke it open with five in the eighth and two more in the ninth.

Sophomore first baseman Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass.) drove in four runs for the Hounds and junior third baseman Matt Lonardo (Cranston, R.I.) had a three-run double in the eighth.

Nine different players scored for Assumption, including junior DH Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass.) with three.

The Bentley offense featured four hits, including a double by graduate second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington, Mass./BB&N). Grover and Figueira each had a single, in addition to their home runs.

Bentley, 0-8, will make another attempt for its first win on Sunday when the two teams complete their three-game series with an 11 am contest.
