7-Run 4th the Turning Point as Rollins Tops Bentley, 13-5

WINTER PARK, Fla. – After trailing 3-2, Rollins College erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and went on to post a 13-5 series-opening win over Bentley University in non-conference college baseball Friday night at Alfond Stadium.

Eight different players drove in runs for the 6-1 Tars, including junior left fielder Nick Santucci (Franklin, Mass,). He scored three times and had an RBI.

Bentley totaled 11 hits, including 3-for-5 with a nine-inning home run by senior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS),

The Falcons, 0-4, took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the top of the fourth. Junior shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden/Malden Catholic HS) scored on Rollins' second error of the inning and senior DH Austin Farry (Watertown/ Watertown HS) followed with an RBI single to right.

The lead was short-lived as Rollins turned five hits, two walks and an error into seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. A double by sophomore DH Luke Reidy (Brentwood, Tenn.) tied the game up and a wild pitch allowed him to score the go-ahead run.

Rollins broke the game open in the fourth, adding four runs to its total to make it 13-4. Sophomore center fielder Cameron Meehan (Orlando, Fla.) had a two-run single, one of five hits by the Tars in the inning.

In addition to the three hits by Grover, Bentley received two apiece from Farry, junior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS), junior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and junior third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater).

Rollins' 18-hit attack included three apiece by Santucci, sophomore catcher Jared Herron (Orlando, Fla.) and senior first baseman Jack Gonzalez (Orlando, Fla.).

Senior righty Cameron Enck (Lancaster, Pa.) was credited with the win following five innings of work in which he allowed six hits and four runs, only one of which was earned.

The series will continue Saturday with a 1:00 first pitch.
