RINDGE, N.H. -- Senior center fielder Adam Chase (Bridgewater, Mass.) had four hits, three runs scored and six RBI as Franklin Pierce University swept a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball doubleheader from Bentley University, 9-0 and 12-8, Saturday afternoon at Pappas Field.

In the nightcap, the Ravens erupted for six runs in the third to claim a 9-2 lead and the Falcons were never able to completely recover. That inning included an RBI double to right center by graduate first baseman Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and a pair of two-run homers, by Chase and sophomore designated hitter Dylan Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.). Those were Franklin Pierce's only hits of the inning as they capitalized on two walks and a hit batter.

Bentley, which was forced to go to the bullpen early after an injury, battled back to within two, 9-7. The comeback began in the fifth with a two-run homer to left by graduate catcher Nathan Littman (Abington, Mass./Abington HS).

In the sixth, the Falcons added three runs to their total. Sophomore shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) had an RBI single and sophomore center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS) made it a two-run differential with a two-run single up the middle.

Franklin Pierce added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, two of them scoring on Chase's triple to center field.

Bentley completed the scoring in the ninth, junior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) scoring on a single up the middle by junior DH Austin Farry (Watertown, Mass./ Watertown HS).

Bentley's 14 hits included two apiece by Littman, Grover, senior second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington, Mass./BB&N), Hopkins and Figueira. Samko extended his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 30.

Franklin Pierce totaled 10 hits off five Falcon pitchers, including a 3-for-4, 4-RBI effort for Chase. Coggeshall added three runs scored and two hits.

In the opener, the Ravens received a four-hit shutout from senior righty Ryan Covelle (Medford, Mass.), who struck out ten and didn't issue a walk.

Bentley's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth when they were down 2-0 at the time. Samko doubled to right center and sophomore first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./ Lincoln Sudbury Reg. HS) followed with a single, putting runners on the corners. However, Covelle escaped trouble by getting an inning-ending double play.

Franklin Pierce, which had scored twice in the first inning on a Coggeshall two-bagger, broke the game open with four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to complete the game's scoring. Chase had a two-run double to right center in the seventh and senior third baseman John Friday (Southborough, Mass.) had a two-run double to center in the eighth.

The two first-inning runs snapped a streak of 18 consecutive scoreless innings for Bentley junior righty Luke Dawson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS), as well as his personal three-game winning streak. E struck out eight to remain the NE10 leader in that category (88).

Bentley, in the midst of a six-game slide, fell to 17-19 overall, including 7-10 in divisional play and 11-10 in conference games. Franklin Pierce improved to 27-12-1 overall, 16-6 NE10 and 11-5 division.

Bentley's final four games of the regular season are at home, beginning Tuesday at 3:30 against Merrimack College.
