Merrimack Halts Bentley’s 6-Game Winning Streak, 18-4

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's six-game winning streak came to an abrupt end with the Falcons falling to Merrimack College, 18-4, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Wednesday afternoon on DeFelice Field.

Sophomore third baseman Joey Porricelli (Monroe, Conn.) and junior DH Matthew Ronai (Orange, Conn.) each scored four times for the Warriors, and junior left fielder Cory Wasylow (Taunton) finished 4-for-6 with four RBI.

Merrimack took control from the start, scoring three times in the first inning and four more in the second. After a single run in the fourth made it an 8-3 game, the Warriors broke it wide open with seven runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Merrimack totaled 17 hits and also took advantage of nine walks issued by four Falcon pitchers, four hit batters and three Bentley errors.

Wasylow's four hits were matched by junior second baseman Anthony Garbino (Ossining , N.Y.), who also had three RBI.

Bentley got on the scoreboard for the first time in the second. Junior right fielder Austin Farry (Watertown/Watertown HS) picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice and graduate catcher Nathan Littman (Abington/Abington HS) scored on a passed ball.

Sophomore center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) had an RBI single in the fourth and sophomore DH Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) led off the Bentley fifth with his third home run of the season.

Berardino, freshman second baseman Charlie Auditore (Walpole/Walpole HS) and sophomore shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden/Malden Catholic HS) each had two of Bentley's eight hits.

The loss dropped the Falcons to 15-13 overall and 5-4 Northeast. Merrimack improved to 16-14, including 4-5 Northeast.

Bentley will continue its 13-game home stand Friday with the start of a three-game series against Assumption College.
