SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton/Taunton HS) drove in six runs, junior Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) had six hits and five runs scored, and the Falcons received quality pitching on a chilly afternoon as Bentley University swept a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader from American International College, 13-1 and 7-1, at Bedard Field Sunday afternoon. They were the first games of the season outside the state of Florida for Coach Bob DeFelice's Falcons.

Bentley, 7-3 in its last 10 games, totaled 26 hits in the twinbill with eight doubles (including a school-record tying three doubles by Grover), a triple and seven innings in which they scored multiple runs.

Complementing the potent offense were strong pitching performances from junior righty Luke Dawson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) and graduate lefty Evan Walsh (Arlington/Arlington Catholic HS). Dawson pitched seven shutout innings in game one, giving up four singles while striking out six. Walsh took the hill in game two and fanned ten in eight innings while allowing six hits and one run.

In the opener, eight different Bentley players picked up an RBI with Figueira leading the way with four. He had the first of the game on a ground out in the second inning and the Falcons' final three on a bases-clearing double to left center in the ninth.

Also contributing to the Falcons' 13 runs in game one were sophomore center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS), who scored three times, and Grover, sophomore Gino Fordiani (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and Grover, who each crossed home plate twice.

Grover, Berardino, Fordiani and sophomore third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater/ East Bridgewater HS) all had two hits for the Falcons.

Ahead 2-1 after five innings of the second game, Bentley (8-9, 2-0 NE10) scored used three successive doubles to score twice. Grover went to center for his, sophomore shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden/Malden Catholic HS) sent his to right and Figueira's went to left for his.

Another two-run inning in the seventh pushed the Falcon lead to five, 6-1. Troiani tripled, Grover doubled him home and Grover scored on a single by Hopkins.

Grover finished game two 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Hopkins had three hits and the same number of RBI, and both Figueira and sophomore catcher Christopher Butler (Danvers/BB&N) each had two hit of the Falcons' 15 game-two hits.

Five of Bentley's runs in the doubleheader were unearned as the result of nine errors by AIC (9-10, 1-4).
