Fast Start Propels Rollins to 14-2 Win over Bentley

WINTER PARK, Fla. – A three-run first inning and four runs in the second propelled Rollins College to a fast start and the Tars went on to record a 14-2 win over Bentley University in non-conference college baseball Sunday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

Six of Rollins' 14 runs were unearned, including all three in the first inning. There was only one hit in the first but it was a big one, a two-run triple by sophomore DH Nick Santucci (Franklin, Mass.). It was the first of three extra base hits for Santucci, who gave Rollins a 9-8 win over the Falcons a night earlier with a two-run walk-off double in the ninth.

Santucci's three-bagger came with two outs in an inning that included a throwing error, a wild pitch and two hit batters.

Santucci was also a factor in the next inning with his double to right driving in Rollins' fourth run of the second.

Bentley's eight hits included three from sophomore first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and two from junior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./ Rocky Hill HS), who raised his average to .389.

Bentley (1-4) got on the scoreboard in the sixth on an RBI single by Grover. He also walked and scored the Falcons' second run on a ground out in the eighth.

Rollins (5-3), which outhit the Falcons 13-8, saw senior Brian Brooker (Palm Beach Garden, Fla.) match Santucci's three RBI.

Junior right-hander Brad Case (Pelham, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound for Rollins after allowing seven hits and one unearned run in six innings of work.

The two teams will complete the three-game series Monday at 3 pm.
