Sullivan, Diskin Lead Bentley Past Bridgeport, 3-1

TAMPA, Fla. – Right-hander Bill Sullivan (Carver, Mass./Carver HS) pitched a complete game six-hitter and freshman Tom Diskin (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) was involved in all three of his team's runs as Bentley University posted a 3-1 win over the University of Bridgeport in non-conference baseball action at the University of Tampa's UT Stadium Friday afternoon.

Sullivan, the workhorse of the Bentley staff, walked two and struck out seven during a 115-pitch effort to earn his second win of the season.

Bentley claimed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with both runs scoring after two were out. Freshman catcher Christopher Butler (Danvers, Mass./BB&N) singled up the middle and scored a double to left by Diskin, his first hit as a collegian. Consecutive wild pitches enabled the Falcon second baseman to score the Falcons' second run.

Bridgeport cut the margin in half in the sixth inning on an infield single, a sacrifice and a double to right by left fielder Chris Tiano (Greenwich, Conn.), a grad student.

Bentley (2-10) closed out the scoring in the seventh, picking up an insurance run. Diskin drew a four-pitch walk to open the frame, took second on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

Butler had two of Bentley's six hits, and senior shortstop Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 for Bridgeport (2-7).

Friday's game was the first of a four-game series between the two clubs, who'll play a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a single at the same time on Sunday. Those games are also at Tampa.
