Saint Anselm Blanks Bentley in Finale of 5-Game Trip

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Senior lefty Joseph Levasseur (Rowley, Mass.) pitched a two-hit shutout as Saint Anselm College blanked Bentley University, 2-0, in non-conference college baseball Thursday morning at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium.

Levasseur needed only 99 pitches in a complete game effort that saw him walk one, hit one and strikeout seven. He only allowed two Falcon base runners to reach second base and retired the final 15 batters he faced.

All of the Hawks' scoring came in the third. Sophomore center fielder Aaron Crandall (Billerica, Mass.) led off with a walk, senior second baseman Matthew Flynn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) singled through the left side and a sacrifice put both in scoring position. A single down the right field  line by senior third baseman Nick Bragole (Newburyport, Mass.) drove in both.

Bentley's only hits were a single by senior shortstop Justin Ashworth (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in the first and a double by junior left fielder Nick Neshe (Waltham, Mass./Waltham HS) to lead off the fourth.

Grad student and right-hander Bill Sullivan (Carver, Mass./Carver HS) took the loss after allowing both runs and seven hits in six innings of work. Sophomore righty Daniel Riley (Mansfield, Mass./Xaverian Bros. HS) came on for the final two innings, retiring all six that he faced.

Flynn had three of the seven hits for Saint Anselm (3-6).

Bentley, 1-10, will return to the Sunshine State for a four-game series against the University of Bridgeport Mar. 17-19.
