Bentley Baseball Receives Team Academic Excellence Award from ABCA

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University baseball team earned a Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association for its performance in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year.

The award, which is being given for the first time this year, recognizes high school and college programs that posted a grade point average over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Twenty four NCAA Division II baseball teams were recognized with Bentley the only one from the Northeast-10.

Bentley, under the leadership of 48-year head coach Bob DeFelice, achieved a 3.15 GPA during the year. Of the 23 players on the final roster, 14 earned at least a 3.0 with eight of those posting at least a 3.40.

"We are extremely proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of so many of our member coaches' programs this year," said ABCA Executive Director Craig Keilitz. "This award highlights our coaches' commitment to developing student-athletes that excel both on and off the field, and we're proud of those student-athletes for their success in the classroom."
