Boston Globe North: "Catching up with Steve Gath/Bentley University baseball"

The Boston Globe North section recently ran a "Catching Up With" feature about former Bentley shortstop Steve Gath.

by Allen Lessels, Globe Correspondent

A three-sport captain (football, basketball, and baseball) at Reading Memorial High School and an all-Middlesex League selection in all three, Steve Gath focused on baseball at Bentley University.

He started every game he played for the Falcons, 177 in all, at shortstop.

"I was lucky and fortunate enough to do that," Gath said. "I never really got tired or injured. One time in a fall season game, either sophomore or junior year, I had an issue with my shoulder being tight, but I needed to get in there and get it worked on. I think it was due to the coaches [under the direction of legendary coach Bob DeFelice] stressing the importance of fitness and he was among the first to take it to another level."

A .325 career hitter as a collegian, Gath is second in career hits (225) at the school and third in stolen bases (53).
