Pair of 6-Run Innings Carry Bentley to 17-5 Win over Bridgeport

TAMPA, Fla. – Senior shortstop Will Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) hit his first career home run and finished with four RBI, three runs scored and three hits as the Bentley University baseball team closed out the Florida portion of its schedule with a 17-5 win over the University of Bridgeport in non-conference action at the University of Tampa Saturday afternoon.

Brennan's round-tripper, a three-run shot to right, came in the eighth inning during the second of back-to-back six-run innings for the Falcons. His day also included scoring after reaching on a single in the sixth and an RBI single with a run scored in the seventh.

Bentley, 2-7, rallied to tie the game three times, including two in the bottom of the sixth, before breaking the contest open with six runs in both the seventh and eighth, totaling the 12 runs on only five hits.  The sixth inning included an RBI single to center by senior designated hitter Dante Padovani (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield HS)  and freshman second baseman Burton Deady (Andover, Mass./ Andover HS) getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the tying run.

Deady and sophomore catcher Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth HS) both finished with three RBI and a quartet of Falcons scored three times. In addition to Brennan, they were Padovani, senior left fielder Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood HS)  and freshman first baseman Justin Ashworth (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS).

Sophomore righty Will Alden (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) earned his first career win with three innings of scoreless relief. He gave three hits and a walk, and struck out four.

Bridgeport, 5-7, received three hits, including a home run, from junior catcher Clayton Morris (Sharpsburg, Ga.).

The next games for Bentley are scheduled to be at LIU Post next Friday and Saturday.
