WALTHAM, Mass. – Six different players had three hits and the Bentley University baseball team scored in seven consecutive innings to dispatch St. Michael's College, 15-3, and move into a first place tie in the Northeast-10 Conference's Northeast Division Friday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

Senior catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison,  Conn./Daniel Hand HS), who extended his hitting streak to 21 games, and junior right fielder Tom Nagy (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe HS) were two of the Falcons who had three hits, and both also knocked in three runs over the course of the game.

Bentley, which pounded out a season-best 21 hits off four St. Michael's pitchers, vaulted out to an early lead with four unearned runs in the bottom of the second. A double by junior shortstop Will Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) and infield single by junior third baseman Nate Witkowski (Melrose/Malden Catholic HS) set the table, and a sacrifice put both in scoring position. Freshman DH Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS) bounced to first, but the catcher was unable to hold on to the ball, allowing Brennan to score the game's first run.

The inning continued with a bad-hop single by junior left fielder Dante Padovani (Lynnfield/ Lynnfield HS), an triple to the right field corner by junior center fielder Sean Keady (Norwood/ Norwood HS) and a single to left by freshman first baseman Evan Mondor (Rehoboth/ Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS). All three hits resulted in an RBI.

After the Purple Knights knocked one run off the lead in the top of the third, Bentley made it a 6-1 game in the bottom of the same inning. Nagy drove in Brennan with a double, and Witkowski scored on a single to right by Rocha.

Brennan scored his third run of the afternoon in the fourth, scoring on Nagy's second hit and RBI of the game, a single to right.

Bentley extended its lead to 11-2 with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Korwek drove in both in the fifth with a single to left, and the runs in the sixth scored on a Padovani single through the left side and a Keady sacrifice fly.

The seventh marked the sixth straight inning that Bentley put runs on the board. Korwek singled and later scored on an outfield error, and Nagy had another RBI single. The runs kept coming in the eighth with Mondor driving in a run with a single and Korwek hitting a sacrifice fly for his third RBI.

In addition to Korwek and Nagy, Bentley received three hits from Keady, Mondor, Brennan and Padovani, with Brennan scoring a team-high four runs.

The beneficiary of the prolific offensive attack was senior right-hander JP Ashline (Clinton/ Acton-Boxboro Reg. HS), who won for the fifth straight time and the sixth time in seven decisions this season. He pitched seven innings, struck out four and allowed 11 hits and three runs.

St. Michael's (12-24, 8-16 NE-10, 4-12 Northeast) was led offensively by junior DH Alec Tice (Chelmsford). He had two hits and two RBI in four at bats.

The win was the seventh in the last eight games, and 13th in the last 15, for Bentley, which improved to 22-16 overall, 14-8 NE-10 and 10-4 in the division. That put the Falcons even with idle Franklin Pierce at the top of the Northeast Division standings.

Bentley and St. Michael's will continue their three-game series Saturday with a noon doubleheader at DeFelice Field.
