WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior right-hander Lamarre Rey (Lynn/Pingree School) carried a two-hit shutout into the ninth and finished with a four-hitter as Bentley University registered a 3-1 win over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Wednesday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

The win was the sixth in the last seven games, and the 12th in the last 14, for the Falcons, who are seventh in the first NCAA Division II East Region rankings that were announced Wednesday evening.  Bentley improved to 21-16 overall, 13-8 NE-10 and 9-4 in the division after holding the opponents to one run or less for the sixth time in nine games since Apr. 13.

Rey was masterful as he lowered his ERA to 1.55, third best in the conference, and won his third straight game to even his record at 3-3. He struck out five, walked one and allowed only one runner to reach second prior to two outs in the ninth.

Bentley scored its first two runs in the fourth without benefit of a hit as it made a hit batter, a walk and three errors hurt. Junior center fielder Sean Keady (Norwood/Norwood HS) was hit by the first pitch of the inning, stole his 32nd base of the season and advanced to third when the throw kicked into the outfield.

Following a walk to freshman first baseman Evan Mondor (Rehoboth/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS), senior second baseman Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy) hit a grounder to short that was mishandled.  Keady scored on the play, with Gillis getting credit for the RBI. After a pop-up and ground out, another infield error allowed Mondor to score.

Bentley freshman DH Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS) led off the bottom of the fifth with a bunt single and was sacrificed to third. An attempted bunt for a hit by Keady got Rocha to third, and he scored on Mondor's bloop single to left.

Stonehill's lone run came with two outs in ninth, the only time all afternoon strung together consecutive hits. Senior center fielder James DeAlto (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) kept his team alive with a single to right, and freshman DH Brian Campbell (Franklin) followed with a single to center, which was misplayed into a two-base error that allowed DeAlto to score and Campbell to race to third. Rey quickly recovered, getting a foul fly to right for the game's final out.

Bentley only had five hits off Stonehill sophomore righty Armand Rugel (Middletown, R.I.), but one of those was an eighth-inning single to left that extended the hitting streak of Falcon senior catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) to 20 games.

Stonehill's fourth straight loss dropped the Skyhawks to 20-18 overall, 8-12 NE-10 and 6-8 Northeast.

Bentley will continue a five-game homestand Friday with a 3:30 divisional game against St. Michael's College.
