NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite a pair of quality pitching performances, the Bentley University baseball team was swept by Southern Connecticut State University Sunday in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Ballpark at SCSU. The Owls used an unearned run to take the opener 1-0 and completed the sweep with a 2-0 game two win.

Sophomore righty Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.), junior righty Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) and sophomore lefty Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) quieted the Falcon bats all afternoon, allowing a total of ten hits while striking out 17.

Cundari held Bentley to six hits and fanned nine over the first seven innings of game one before giving way to Egan, and the Owl closer also saved the nightcap after Bryant struck out seven and gave up four hits in eight innings.

The opener saw Bentley senior righty Jeff Croteau (Auburn, Mass./Auburn HS) go the distance, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out four.  John Yohe (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic HS), also a senior right-hander, pitched the first six innings for the Falcons in game two, striking out six while giving up eight hits and two runs.

The only run of game one was scored in the sixth. Sophomore second baseman Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) led off with a single down the left field line, was sacrificed to second and scored on a dropped fly ball to left.

 Bentley left eight runners on base, including two in both the second and sixth. The Falcons had runners on second and third in the second, and runners on the corners in the sixth, but each time, Cundari escaped unscathed.

Both runs in game two came in the fifth inning, and again Baviello started things for Southern (12-5, 3-1 NE-10), this time with a one-out single to right center. Senior center fielder Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) followed with a double to right, and both scored on a single to left by senior first baseman A.J. Rouleau (Westborough, Mass.).

Bentley's best scoring chance in that one came in the eighth when senior catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) was thrown out trying to score from second on a two-out single by junior third baseman Nate Witkowski (Melrose, Mass./Malden Catholic HS).

Korwek and senior second baseman Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy) each had three hits in the doubleheader for Bentley, which dipped to 7-12 overall and 0-4 NE-10.

 Bentley is scheduled to make its home debut this week with games at DeFelice Field against Assumption Tuesday and Stonehill Wednesday.
