Nova Southeastern Hands Bentley 2nd Straight 5-0 Shutout; Bermel with 2 Hits for Falcons

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Junior lefty Mitchell Buerosse (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) pitched six scoreless innings and combined with three relievers on a three-hit shutout as preseason top 25 Nova Southeastern University completed a three-game sweep of Bentley University, 5-0 Sunday afternoon at the NSU Baseball Complex.

Buerosse struck out eight and retired the Falcons in order in five of his six innings. Junior left fielder Will Bermel (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side HS), who had two of Bentley's three hits, was the only one to reach against Buerosse, with an infield single to open the third.

That came right after the 9-6 Sharks struck for three runs in the second, capitalizing on three walks, two hits and a couple errors. Freshman shortstop Kavan Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) had a two-run two-out single after two walks and a single loaded the bases, and a throwing error allowed junior second baseman Carlos Asuaje (Weston, Fla.) to score the third run.

A sacrifice fly by junior left fielder William Rudolph (Parkland, Fla.) made it 4-0 in the fifth and one by senior right fielder Alex Marrero (Miami, Fla.) in the eighth completed the game's scoring.

Asuaje, Marrero and senior catcher Brett Clements (Riverview, Fla.) each had two hits for the Sharks, who finished with a total of nine.

Bentley completed the Sunshine State Conference of its schedule with a 3-6 record and will be back in Florida March 10 for six games against East Region teams, beginning with a 12 noon encounter with Assumption College.
