FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A walk-off RBI double by junior Carlos Asuaje (Weston, Fla.) with two outs in the bottom of the 11th gave Nova Southeastern University a 3-2 win over Bentley University in non-conference baseball action Friday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The loss spoiled a Falcon comeback from an early 2-0 deficit and a strong relief effort from Bentley senior right-hander Lamarre Rey (Lynn, Mass./Pingree School).

Nova Southeastern, ranked nationally preseason, got things started in the 11th on a one-out infield single by sophomore Angel Navarro (Miami Lakes, Fla.). He stole second and got caught in a rundown on a single to short by senior catcher Brett Clements (Riverview, Fla.), with Clements advancing to second on the play.

Following a hit batter, Asuaje lined a double to left center, driving in Clements with the game-winner.

The only scoring for the 7-6 Sharks before the 11th came in the second. Senior outfielder Alex Marrero (Miami, Fla.) hit a one-out single to left and moved to third on a double down the left field line by junior right fielder William Rudolph (Parkland, Fla.). A grounder to third by senior first baseman Anthony Argulo (Homestead, Fla.) scored Marrero with the game's first run, and Rudolph made it 2-0 when he scored on a wild pitch.

Bentley got on the scoreboard in the sixth when junior center fielder Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood HS) led off with an infield single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS).

In the seventh, the 3-4 Falcons picked up an unearned run to even the game up. Freshman catcher Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth HS) led off with a single down the left field line, stole second and scored on a two-out error.

Nova threatened in the eighth, loading the bases off Rey before he got an inning-ending grounder to short. Rey pitched 4.2 innings in relief of senior JP Ashline (Clinton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Reg. HS) and allowed only the run in the 11th. He struck out four, walked three and gave up six hits. Ashline yielded five hits and two runs in his six innings of work.

The Sharks finished with an 11-5 edge in hits, including three by Asuaje, with sophomore righty Kenny Miranda (Loxahatchee, Fla.) pitching four innings of near-perfect relief to gain the victory. The only runner he put on base reached on an error and was thrown out stealing to end the tenth.

The series continues with 2 pm games both Saturday and Sunday.
