Bentley University Intramural Flag Football Rules

 

Captains must email Bentley Intramurals at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled game to request a rescheduled game and prevent a forfeit.  The rescheduling will be at the mercy of your opponent & space/referee availabilty.  Forfeit penalties: forfeit: Loss of $50 forfeit fee

 

Time of play:

 

Two equal halves of 20 minutes each.

 

Five minute half-time.

 

One time-out per half – no carryover.

 

Last minute of each half: stop time on out of bounds and incomplete pass plays.

 

Overtime: College Rules! 

  • No Game clock, ONLY PLAY CLOCK
  • No KICKOFFS
  • Possessions start at the 25 yard line 
  • Possessions last until a team scores or a turnover is made
  • Coin toss will determine who starts overtime with the ball 
  • Each team gets one time out that does not carry over from regulation 
  • Additonal overtime periods are played when the score is remained tied after both team have had possession
  • At the start of the second overtime and beyond, teams will alternate two-point conversions 

 

Conditions of Play:

 

Timing – A team has 25 seconds to get a play off after the ball has been spotted.

 

Kick Off

       Five yards from the end zone.

       Win coin toss – Options: kick, receive, defer to second half.

       If team chooses to receive, other team gets choice of ends.

 

On-Side Kick – Ball is free after kick crosses mid-field

 

First downs – one per team (cross midfield)

 

Play over – A player is down if the knee touches the ground

 

In-bounds – Possession with one foot in-bounds constitutes a completed pass.

 

Fumbles – Live on kickoffs and punts.

 

Safety – The Team can kick or punt from the 5 yard line.  Returns are allowed.

 

Punting

       Only two players can run downfield on a punt, after the ball has been punted.

       Punts cannot be returned.

       No rushing the punter.

 

Loss of flag

       Tampering: immediate ejection from the game for the guilty player.

       Inadvertent: play is live until ball carrier is touched (one hand) by the defense.

 

Player Equipment – No pads or tape (except for ankles). Plastic cleats ONLY!, no metal spikes permitted.

 

Number of Players –

       Seven per team on field

       Offense must have at least three players on the line of scrimmage.

       Everyone, except the center, is an eligible receiver

       A team (all seven players) must huddle after every play, except for final 2 minutes of each half.

 

Scoring:

Extra Point (from 5 yard line)

        Pass: one point

        Run: two points

        Interception of extra point is dead.

Third player: Automatic League Ejection

 

Any player removed from a game by a referee for any reason will be suspended from play in the next scheduled game. Reasons for removal from a game include, but are not limited to: serious foul play, violent conduct and offensive, insulting or abusive behavior towards a game official and other players.  Further sanctions against the player involved and/or that player’s team may be imposed by the Intramural Director upon review of the incident and will be referred to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs for possible adjudication through the Student Conduct System.

A player ejected for fighting will be suspended from playing indefinitely, and the altercation will be reported to University Police and referred to the Student Conduct System (see the Bentley Student Handbook at www.bentley.edu).  

 

Referee decisions with respect to play are final.

 

Varsity Football players are not eligible. Varsity Players that are found playing for any team will recieve a $50 fine. NO EXCEPTIONS
