Bentley University Tailgating Policy

Consistent with a long-standing policy, Bentley University prohibits tailgating on its property (defined in the Guidelines for Outside Use of Grounds policy as events geared for more than 30 people or those planned to occur on a regular basis). Unfortunately, recent events at tailgates or post-game gatherings has necessitated that this policy be enforced on a more consistent basis. Therefore, no tailgating will be permitted on Bentley University property.

However, understanding that family/friends/spectators may wish to have an occasional gathering following a specific athletic event, exceptions will be made on a limited basis with the following conditions.

  1. A principle organizer who is a relative of current member of team is identified and willing to take responsibility for the event.
  2. The principle organizer informs the coach at least two weeks prior.
  3. If coach is supportive, he/she brings the proposal to the Athletic Director for approval. If the coach is not supportive, the event does not happen.
  4. A location will be identified and the event must be contained within that area.
  5. Events must take place only after play has concluded but not exceed 90 minutes after play has stopped (unless approved as a pre-game event).
  6. No alcohol is permitted at any time.
  7. Organizers will ensure appropriate cleanup at the end of the event.
  8. Violations may result in the ability to host future events.

This policy is in place for all teams with the exception of football. For all home football games, a family tailgating area has been designated. Items 4-8 will be strictly followed for all football events.
