WALTHAM, Mass. – Golfer Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), swimmer Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Mahoney HS) and hockey standout Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc. /Sioux City Musketeers (USHL) were recently honored as the top senior-athletes in Bentley University's Class of 2018.

Schmidt was recognized as Bentley's Outstanding Male Senior Athlete, Niemiec was tabbed as the Outstanding Female Senior Athlete and Meyers received the Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award as Bentley's premier senior scholar-athlete.

Schmidt led the Falcons in goals (16) and points (31) with a quarter of his goals game-winners. His final collegiate season included a hat trick and four points in a 5-2 win at Rochester Institute of Technology and a pair of assists in the second game ever played in the new Bentley Arena.

Bentley's team captain finished his career with 57 goals, 63 assists, 120 points and ten game-winners. In the Falcons' Division I history, Schmidt is second in power play goals (23), tied for second in game-winners and sixth in both goals and points. His 153 games played are the most by any player in program history and his point total was tenth most among all Division I players active during the 2017-18 season.

Niemiec, who was Bentley's nominee for both the NCAA and Northeast-10 Woman of the Year award, was a standout for the Falcons' women's swimming teams the last four years. During s her career, she medaled in 24 of 28 events at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, earning eight gold medals along with nine silver and seven bronze.

At the 2018 championships in February, Niemiec helped Bentley capture NE10 gold in the 800 yard freestyle relay for the third straight year and break a six-year-old school record in the 200 medley relay with a clocking of 1:47.09. Niemiec also contributed outside the pool as a two-year president of Bentley's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

The Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award is given annually, in memory of the late President of the Boston Garden, a Bentley alumnus and trustee.

Meyers, who was a finalist for the NE10 Man of the Year award, helped Bentley to four NCAA tournament berths and a pair of Northeast-10 championships during his collegiate career. His final year was his best as he led the Falcons with a 74.0 stroke average, second best in program history and was ranked fourth in the East Region by GolfStat.

Meyers, the 2017 recipient of the Northeast-10's Sport Excellence award for golf (the 2018 award winner has not yet been announced), also sparkled in the classroom while majoring in both accountancy and liberal studies. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, was selected by CoSIDA for Google Cloud Academic All-District honors and achieved a GPA exceeding 3.8.
