Bentley Finishes 2nd in Northeast-10 President’s Cup Standings

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University finished second in the standings for the Northeast-10 Conference President's Cup for the 2015-16 academic year. It marked the 29th time in the last 30 years that the Falcons have been in the top three.

Bentley totaled 176 points to move up from a sixth-place finish a year ago. The only program with more was Adelphi University with a conference-leading 194 points. Stonehill College was third with 173 and Merrimack College rounded out the top four with 170.

The President's Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the Northeast-10. The honor is awarded to the institution that compiles the most points based on finishes in the regular season in team sports and in the conference championships in cross country, swimming, indoor track, outdoor track and golf.

Bentley amassed the maximum number of points in men's basketball and women's basketball after winning conference regular season titles in those sports. Other sports that did well were women's volleyball, women's cross country, men's cross country, men's swimming, women's swimming and women's lacrosse.

Bentley has won the President's Cup eight times, most recently in 2008-09, and has been second 17 times since 1987-88. The Falcons' 25 top-two finishes during that time is unparalleled with no other institution having more than seven.

In the Learfield Directors' Cup standings, produced by the National Association of College Directors of America based on finish in NCAA championships, Bentley was 86th overall and fifth among NE-10 institutions. The Falcons' best showing came in women's basketball with an appearance in the national semifinals. Bentley was also represented in NCAA championship play in men's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf and women's diving.

Bentley student-athletes also excelled in the classroom during the year with all of the university's 21 athletic teams posting grade point averages exceeding 3.0 for the year and more than half of the 500+ student-athletes earning President's or Dean's List recognition.
