McFarland & Mancini Named Bentley’s Outstanding Senior Athletes; Gladiuk Recipient of Powers Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – Men's basketball's Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) and diver Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS), both of whom received All-America recognition in their respective sports, were named Bentley University's Outstanding Senior Athletes Monday night during a Division of Student Affairs awards program in the Dana Center's Carleton Room.

In addition, hockey standout Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo Clippers) was presented with the Edward J. Powers Scholar Athlete Award as Bentley's premier senior scholar-athlete. The award, given annually since 1965, is named after the late president of the old Boston Garden, an alumnus and trustee of Bentley.

McFarland finished his career as Bentley's all-time leading scorer, totaling 2,118 points during a four-year span that saw him become the first player in program history to lead the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding all four seasons.  A durable player who started every game of his college career, he also set Bentley career records for field goals (785), field goals attempted (1,591) and average minutes (34.8).

McFarland, who boosted his scoring average annually, gave the Falcons 22.6 points (the second highest average in program history) and 7.5 rebounds a game during his senior season while helping Bentley capture the Northeast-10 Northeast Division title and earn an NCAA tournament berth. He was selected as an All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and as a second-team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Of all those who played NCAA men's basketball this past season, regardless of division, McFarland was one of only nine with at least 2,000 points and 800 rebounds.

Mancini, the Northeast-10 Women's Diver of the Year for the third time, earned her fourth career All-America award by placing sixth in the three-meter diving at the NCAA Division II Championships in Bloomington, Ind. Her score off the three-meter board at the nationals was 471.30, a mark that broke her own school record.

Mancini, who returned to action this past season after being sidelined by injury in 2014-15, captured Northeast-10 gold in both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions at the conference championships for the third time. She was also the recipient of the Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award for women's swimming and diving as the sport's top scholar-athlete.

Mancini is expected to return next winter for her final year of eligibility.

Gladiuk has been a standout on the ice and in his classroom during his four years at Bentley. A candidate for the 2016 Senior CLASS award in ice hockey, he's earned a 3.85 grade point average as a corporate finance and accounting major and has made six appearances on the President's List. Gladiuk has twice been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and is currently under consideration for Academic All-America honors.

A team captain for the 2015-16 Falcons, Gladiuk finished his career ranking first in power play goals (33), second in goals (72) and third in points (153) among active Division I players. He's number two in Bentley D-I history in goals and points after finishing his final season with 17-29-45.  Gladiuk scored six times on the power play and recorded three game-winners.

Gladiuk earned All-Atlantic Hockey honors for the third time with selection to the 2015-16 second team.
