SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM

Golfer Ellis Yoder was selected to the 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-America men’s at-large third team, becoming the 81st Academic All-America in Bentley University history. That total ranks amongst the most in Division II history.

During the 2018-19 academic year, four Bentley teams (men’s cross country, men’s indoor track, men’s lacrosse, men’s outdoor track) received Team Academic Excellence awards from the Northeast-10 Conference for having the highest GPA in the conference in those sports. Due to the pandemic, those awards were not presented for 2019-20.

Each of Bentley’s varsity teams had a grade point average of 3.0 or better during the 2019-20 academic year, and 18 were at 3.3 or better.

16 Bentley student-athletes earned Academic All-Northeast-10 honors this past year with Max Troiani (baseball) and Tommy Ethier (golf) recipients of NE-10 Sports Excellence Awards in their respective sport. In addition, 11 received CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for their success on the playing fields and in the classroom.

Bentley led the Northeast-10 in number of student-athletes named to the Northeast-10 Academic Honor Roll following both the fall semester and had the second most during the spring, with 381 and 409, respectively. That equates to approximately three-quarters of the University’s student-athletes achieving a 3.0 GPA or better.

Bentley placed 20 on the 2019-20 Academic All-Atlantic Hockey team. Included were four-year honorees Connor Brassard, Jake Kauppila, Brett Orr, Adam Pelino and Matt Riggleman.

16 members of the Bentley field hockey team were named to the 2019 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.  Four of the 16 were recognized for the fourth straight year: Abby Adams, Keally Ingersoll, Christa Knell and Ashley Scholten. Scholten was also tabbed an NFHCA Division II Scholar of Distinction for having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.90 through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

In swimming, both the men’s and women’s teams were named as Scholar All-America teams by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) following both the fall and spring semesters. Four Falcons (Dariana Gonzales, Caroline Logozzo, Dan Sausto and Mark Zoda) qualified for CSCAA Scholar All-America second team honors.

Four members of the cross country teams received USTFCCCA All-Academic status for their performance in the regional and in the classroom: Soham Basu, Samantha Bilodeau, Ben Edwards and Paige Fehskens.

In addition, the USTFCCCA recognized both the men’s and women’s cross country teams, as well as the men’s and women’s track teams, with All-Academic recognition.

Six members of the women’s tennis team qualified for Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete status by virtue of having a 3.50 GPA during 2019-20. In addition, both the men’s and women’s teams earned All-Academic honors from the ITA for having over a 3.20 GPA.

The baseball team earned an All-Academic award from the American Baseball Coaches Association for the fifth straight year for having over a 3.0 GPA.

Four golfers were selected for Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholar recognition by the Golf Coaches Association of America, with GPA and stroke average the criteria. They were Tommy Ethier, Ryan Daly, Robert Falconer and Ellis Yoder.

Five graduating football players were named to the Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation.

♦ ♦ ♦ 

The National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Honors Court included Falcons Chris Hudson and Dan Reagan. Collectively, the Falcons were recognized with a Team Academic Award.

Women’s volleyball received a Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the seventh consecutive year.

♦ ♦ ♦ 

148 Bentley student-athletes were recognized by the Division II Athletics Directors Association with Academic Achievement Awards for having a 3.50 cumulative GPA or better.
